About the Author
I am a writer, a philosopher, a dreamer, and an idealist. I have no credentials worth mentioning, and I don’t presume to know anything about anything. I am merely a man, and a person of color, and I am always contemplating what that means for me and my relationship to the rest of the world. That relationship is negotiated by an overwhelming sense of justice, something I mitigate with a harsh rationality lest I come completely undone by my emotions.
The name “Godheval” came to me in a “eureka moment”, and was later given the meaning “God’s Upheaval”. “God” in this context refers to the rigid institution of God, as found in religion, but for me also represents the dogmatic structure of many secular schools of thought. The Upheaval refers to my skepticism in demanding that everything be questioned and challenged rigorously. The name does not ascribe to me any sort of divine status, as that would be entirely hypocritical.
I am a writer, social commentator, and an aspiring multimedia creator. I am also a philosopher of sorts, constantly developing ideas about myself and the world. In some ways I am an existentialist, as I almost instinctively resist the influence of major cultural and ideological (i.e. political and religious) institutions, and constantly question my identity.
I am a true nonconformist, which is different than a “reverse conformist”. I do not intentionally resist what’s popular just to be different, and in fact I sometimes mourn my differences. I challenge everything and believe in nothing, but this is very different than accepting nothing and disbelieving in everything.
I am amorphous. I take in everything with a certain degree of skepticism and I am prepared at any moment to cast off old preconceptions as my image of the world changes. I would consider myself an anachronism, although I am unsure if I would’ve been better suited to the relative simplicity of the past, or what my imagination projects as an idealistic future.
Lastly, I am quite aware of the self-absorbed, self-indulgent, and self-important nature of this website – nevermind this particular page – and I do not pretend otherwise. Still, I hope that what I present here will be at least somewhat provocative, inspiring, or entertaining to others.
